Thrust Ring
One of the two Lead Designers.
Designed requirements
1) Transfer up to 6000 lbf of thrust from a solid motor to the rest of the rocket.
Manufacturability:
Material: Aluminium 6061-T6
Mass: 2.16 lbm
OD: 12" +.005" -.005"
ID: 5.995" +0.006" -0.000"
Designed requirements
1) Transfer up to 6000 lbf of thrust from a solid motor to the rest of the rocket.
- Adhesive is used to connect the lower and upper airframe
- A lip transfers thrust to the upper potion of the rocket, loading the Fiberglass air frame in compression which is a good load case for our specific tube
- Lobs allow for a Locational Transition Fit between the thrust ring and the air frame while still allowing room for adhesive.
- A cut out allows for a bolt to pass into the main body of the thrust ring. A Mil Spec threaded insert is used to avoid the repeated threading of Aluminium
Manufacturability:
- Designed to be manufactured in a 3 axis CNC
- Spokes were pushed to the bottom to allow a one-fixture operation.
- Thrust from motor makes spokes bend into the outside lip rather than bending away. This prevents stress concentrations from forming
